Tuesday Tome 31st October 2023

It is nice to see the sun shining and a good turnout of Grumpies today.  Fingers crossed the weather is this good on Thursday for our Murray Halberg Day – don’t forget cards need to be in by 11.30am for a midday tee off – entry is $20.  Don’t forget to bring plenty of cash as there is a raffle and an auction following golf.

Please remember to get your entries in for the 36 Hole Mixed Foursomes on Saturday 11th November.  If you need a partner let the office know and we will endeavour to find you someone.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Ro Griffiths leading the way with 38 points, Malcolm Bridge 37, Pete Price, Martin Napier, Tony Taylor and Mariana McDermott 36 points.  There were no twos.

On Wednesday the Ladies also played a Stableford with Marion McKenzie winning with 43 points, Marie Scrimshaw 42 and Angela Busby 34 points.  Nearest the pins went to Carol Parkinson on #6 and Marion McKenzie on #8.  Twos went to Carol, Marion, Marie and Sandra Petersen.

There were a few hardy souls who battled the wind and the rain on Thursday but this didn’t seem to bother the winner, Trevor Petersen, as he came in with 42 points, Robbie Walters 39, Lachie McLeod and Jason Burt 36, Andrew McKenzie, Mariana McDermott, Andy Morison and Ro Griffiths 35 points.  Nearest the pin was Dayle Harwood and twos went to Seamus O’Sullivan (2), Dayle Harwood, Rob Smith and Jason Shaw.

The weekend competitions were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.  The winner on Saturday was Trevor Petersen 66, Mark Lucock and Marilyn MacKenzie 70.  Twos went to Shayne Cater, John Warner and Trevor Petersen.  Putting was won by Mark Lucock with 26 putts.

Sunday’s winner was Vern Anton 67, Ed Brown and Sandy Bidwill 69, Chris Handley 70 and Steven Croft 71.  Twos went to Bevan Sweeney, Sandy Bidwill, Shayne Hammond, Terry Fraei, Barry Johnson and Ed Brown.  Sandy won the putting with 26 putts.

The competitions this week are:  18 holers:  final of the Vets Club Champs, Par MSB for everyone else and the 9 holers have their Shoot Out final.

Saturday is Club Championship finals starting at 8.40am and Sunday the competition is Stableford.

Tuesday Tome 16th October 2023

Coming up in November we are hosting the 36 Hole Mixed Foursomes on Saturday 11th November (flyer attached).  It would be lovely to see this tournament well supported so if you haven’t got a partner let the office know and we will try and find you someone.

Results from last week:  there was a good turnout of Grumpies with Rick Hargreaves leading the way with 44 points, 2nd Ed Brown 41, 3rd Jason Shaw 39 and equal 4th Bob Tosswill and Malcom Wood with 38 points.  Twos went to Greg Dalton, Seamus O’Sullivan and Jason Shaw.

On Wednesday the ladies were playing Club Championship matches and four hardy souls braved the weather and played a nett round with the winner being Kelly Taylor with a nett 70.  There were no nearest the pins or twos.

Once again there was a good turnout for Thursday Club.  Malcolm Bridge was the winner with 40 points, Tora Boyne 39, Lachie McLeod and Robbie Walters 38, Greg Dalton and Charlie Cresswell 37 and Rob Smith, Kheinan Morrissey and Shane Hislop 36 points.  Nearest the pin went to birthday boy Glen Schofer who got his two along with Greg Dalton and Dayle Harwood who managed two twos.

The competition at the weekend was Par with Robbie Walters leading the way on all square, Ed Brown and Julie Dondertman -2.  There were no twos.

On Sunday a few of our players went to Eketahuna to defend the Baarrbraa Trophy – apparently the conditions were very trying with bags blowing over and people barely able to walk in the wind.  Congratulations to Eketahuna on reclaiming the trophy.

The competitions for this week are:  9 Holers have their Club Champ Finals, 18 holers have further rounds of Club Champs and those not playing in CCs have a Par round and the weekend competitions are Stableford.

Tuesday Tome 10th October 2023

There is a good turnout of Grumpies today – must be the sunshine tempting them out to play.

Coming up this week we have the Lamb & Chardonnay Ambrose on Friday teeing off at 11.30am.

Sunday is the Baarrbraa Trophy at Eketahuna – please let me know by tomorrow afternoon if you are keen to play.  Tee off is at 12.30pm so that you can watch the All Blacks.

Results from last week:  Last Tuesday 8 Grumpies went out to play but only 4 completed the round in very miserable conditions.

On Wednesday the ladies played Club Champs and those that didn’t have matches played a Stableford round off the red tees.  The winner was Karen Shaw with 33 points from Julie Dondertman 32 and Bernadette Pither 29 points.  Nearest the pins went to Carol Parkinson #6 and Karen Shaw #8.  There were no twos.

On Thursday there was a $10 tournament with a huge number of prizes.  The winner was Johnson Williams with 40 points, Ailsa Malneek 38, Robbie Walters 37, Tee Aranui, Trevor Petersen and Kheinan Morrissey 36, George Hunt, Pete Price, George Kirk, Doug Clark, Rick Thompson and Ed Brown 35 and Bevan Sweeney, Shayne Hammond, Stephen Watts, John Monaghan, Jason Shaw, Malcolm Wood, Rick Hargreaves and Tim Loe all with 34 points.  Twos went to Guy Walmsley, Kheinan Morrissey and Pete Price.  Nearest the pins:  #6 Kheinan Morrissey, #8 Rick Thompson, #12 Doug Clark and #16 Jason Shaw.  Longest drives:  Men 0-18 Shane Colton, 19+ Greg Dalton, women Sandra Petersen.

The weekend competitions were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.  The winner on Saturday was John Warner with nett 65, he also won the putting with 22 putts and he had the only two!  Sundays winner was Jason Shaw 70, Doug Clark 70, Malcolm Bridge 72 and Bevan Sweeney and Kris Mason 73.  Doug Clark won the putting with 25 putts.  Twos went to Trevor Petersen, Doug Clark, Jason Shaw, John Warner, Malcolm Bridge and Bevan Sweeney.

The competitions for this week are:  Ladies 18 holes:  LGU/Shoot Out/Putting and the weekend competitions are Par rounds.

Tuesday Tome 3rd October 2023

Just when you think Spring is here Winter decides to show its face again.

This week Thursday Club is having a $10 tournament, everyone is welcome and there are loads of prizes up for grabs.  Please have your card in by 11.55am.

Friday 13th October we are hosting the Lamb & Chardonnay Ambrose, registration is from 10.30am with tee off at 11.30am.  Spots are filling up fast so please get your team in to me by next Wednesday (11th).  Entry fee is $160/team of 4.  Please note that this is open to all affiliated members with a NZGA handicap.

Results from last week:  No golf for the Grumpies or Ladies last week, however there was a reasonable turnout for Thursday Club and James Elworthy was the winner on the day with 44 points, 2nd Shane Colton 38, Tim Loe 37, Raymond Matthews 36 and Ed Brown and Johnson Williams 35 points.  Twos went to Malcolm Bridge (2), Doug Clark (2), Kheinan Morrissey, Johnson Williams, Tee Aranui and Graham Wilson.  Nearest the pin was Malcolm Bridge.

Over the weekend we hosted the Mens 54/36 Hole Open – on Saturday the conditions were not the best for golf – rain, sleet and wind but that didn’t deter them.  Results were:

It feels as if winter has returned so not sure how many Grumpies will venture out today.

Coming up this weekend is the Mens 54/36 Hole Open – it is very disappointing to note that we have nearly as many visitors playing as members, so come on guys get your names into the office and make this a tournament to remember.

Entries are now being taken for the Lamb & Chardonnay which is being played on Friday 13th October and also for the Baarrbraa Trophy at Eketahuna on Sunday 15th October.  Please remember that these should be sent to:  entries@martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz

Results from last week:  Grumpies played an Irish Stableford round with Griff Page leading the way with 76 points, Michael Eastwood (Ohope Beach), Brett Abercrombie & Mariana McDermott 68 and Vern Anton 67 points.  There were no twos.

On Wednesday the ladies played Stableford, 1st Katrina Burgess 40, Jenny Wilkie, Emily Loughnan and Julie Weber 37 points.   Nearest the pins were Sandra Petersen #6 and Julie Dondertman #8, twos went to Sandra, Emily and Katrina.

The 9 holers also played a Stableford round with Jenny Tosswill fresh from her holiday winning with 21 points and Jill Murphy and Lizzy Thomson both on 20 points.

There was a good turnout on Thursday and the winner was Ed Elworthy on a countback with 40 points, Bob Lindberg 40, Bill Gordon and Johnson Williams 39 points and Alistair Petrie 37 points.  Twos went to Shane Mellor and Jason Shaw and nearest the pin was Seamus O’Sullivan.

On Sunday we hosted the AB Martin Mixed Foursomes and at the end of the day every couple appeared to still be talking to each other.  Once again a father and daughter team won, namely Kelly Taylor & Trevor Petersen with nett 66, 2nd Mariana McDermott & Brett Abercrombie 69, 3rd Ali Tipler & Sandy Bidwill 71, 4th Cate Crombie & Jason Shaw 72, 5th Honor & Doug Clark 75, 6th Ju Allen & Bill Gordon 76, 7th Sarah & John Monaghan 76, 8th Jo & Tim Loe 76, 9th Carol Parkinson & Pete Griffiths 77.

Just when you think the weather is improving it starts raining again but I doubt that it will deter the Grumpies.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Bob Schofield winning on a countback with 35 points, Andy Morison 35, Malcolm Bridge and Seamus O’Sullivan 34 points and Andy had the only two of the day.

The Ladies were rained off last week as was Thursday Club.

Weekend competition was a Par round and the winner on Sunday was Doug Clark on +3, Rob Coy and Jason Burt +2.  Twos went to Jason Shaw, Brian Russo, Josh Hawkins and Dayle Harwood.

Competitions for this week (if the weather allows) are:  LGU/Shoot Out/Putting & HPMC for the 18 holers, Stableford for the 9 holers and the weekend competitions are Stableford.

Tuesday Tome 1st August 2023

It’s not often that we say it but it is good to have the wind which will hopefully help dry the course out and keep the rain away.

Carts are still not allowed on the course but this is being assessed on a daily basis.

Results from last week:  Grumpies had a reasonable turnout and the winner was Pete Price with 35 points, Nick Morison and Brent McKinlay 34 points and Lloyd Warren 33 points.  There were no twos.

The Ladies were rained off on Wednesday as was Thursday Club.

The weekend competitions were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out with the winners being John Warner on Saturday with a net 72 and he also won the putting with 29 putts, and Sundays winner was Vern Anton 71, Brian Russo, Jason Shaw and Shane Hislop all on net 73.  Jason got the only two of the day and also won the putting with 24 putts.

Competitions for this week are:  18 holers have HPMC (Stableford) and LGU/Shoot Out/Putting, 9 holers have Best Net/Shoot Out and Thurlow 4BBB.  The weekend competitions are Par.

It is a glorious day at the moment but I’m not sure how long that will last – it will be interesting to see how many Grumpies come out to play today.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Brian Russo leading the way with 38 points, Andy Morison 37, Chris Handley 36 and Malcolm Bridge 35 points.  Twos went to Jason Shaw and Andy Morison

On Wednesday the Ladies played Stableford – 1st was Felicity Warren 36 points, Carol Parkinson 35 and Kelly Taylor 34 points.  There were no twos and nearest the pins went to Honor Clark on #6 and Lyle Griffiths on #8.

9 holers also played Stableford last week and the winner was Jenny Tosswill 16 points on a countback from Pat Wood and 3rd was Ali Russell with 35 points.  Nearest the pin on #16 was Pat Wood.

Thursday Club had a good turnout with Andrew Sim leading the way with 42 points, Bob Schofield 39, Vern Anton and Sandra Petersen 38, Doug Clark, Andy Morison, Guy Walmsley and Brian Russo all with 37 points.  Twos went to Doug Clark and Vern Anton and Tim Loe was nearest the pin.

The Competitions at the weekend were Stableford with no one venturing out on Saturday but the winner on Sunday was Shane Hislop and the only two of the day went to Brian Russo.

Competitions this week are:  Ladies have LGU/Shoot Out/Putting, 9 holers are playing Best Nett/Shoot Out/LGU and the weekend competitions are Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.

Tuesday Tome 18th July 2023

Glorious day today so I am sure there will be a number of Grumpies looking forward to playing today.

For those of you that use carts please call the office to check if they are allowed as this is being assessed on a day to day basis.

Results from last week:  Only a handful of Grumpies played last week and then not everyone finished due to the inclement weather.

On Wednesday the ladies played HPMC (Stableford) and Julie Weber was the winner with 34 points, Jenny Wilkie 31 and Felicity Warren and Emily Loughnan 30 points.  Twos went to Bernadette Pither, Jenny Wilkie and Angela Busby.  Nearest the pins were Bernadette on #6 and Angela on #8.

The 9 holers had a putting competition with Leonie Wilde winning with 13 putts and Sherryl Howie and Jane Fanselow-Price 17 putts.

No results from Thursday Club or weekend competitions due to the wet conditions.

The fog is finally clearing and the sun is trying to shine.  For those of you who use carts unfortunately you are all out of luck – carts are a no go this week.

Results from last week:  Grumpies had the best turnout in weeks with Greg Dalton and Ed Brown leading the way with 39 points from Paul Riddiford 38 and Andy Morison 36 points.  Twos went to Malcolm Wood, Andrew McKenzie and Greg Dalton.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played Par MSB and the winner was Felicity Warren on +3, Angela Busby +2 and Sandra Petersen and Julie Dondertman +1.  Twos went to Ju Allen and Angela Busby.  Nearest the pins were Sandra Petersen on #6 and Angela Busby on #8.

The 9 holers also played a Par round with Jill Murphy the winner on a countback on +2, Billie Holmes +2 and Tania Williamson -1.  Nearest the pins went to Billie on #8 and Tania on #16.

Thursday Club had a large turnout and the winner was Charlie Cresswell with 44 points, Malcolm Wood 39 (who also shot his age – very impressive), Shayne Hammond 38, Vern Anton, Doug Clark, Jason Shaw and Shane Hislop all on 37 points.  Nearest the pin went to Seanoa Isaac and twos went to Sandy Bidwill and Malcolm Wood.

Competitions on the weekend were Stableford and Saturdays winner was Chris Brooks with 41 points and he also got a two along with John Warner.  No one played in the competition on Sunday.

Coming up this week the 18 holers are playing HPMC, 9 holers have a putting round and the weekend competitions are Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.
