MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT
BY JENNY BOYNE
The Easter Monday Mow down Ambrose tournament was a great success and well supported by the members and friends of Martinborough golf. The course has held up well with the recent rains and for the first time in simply a very long while, no one has had to lose sleep over the water allocation consent.
Seventeen teams enjoyed their day, though we understand that one ex pat Englishman lost not only one but two club heads off two shafts on two consecutive holes. And it didn’t come about by bad temper!
Interestingly the top two spots went to the teams who started on the Par 3 Number 16. Enjoying each other company and some Sergio spell bounding approach shots saw 1st place awarded to The Masters Greg and Liz Stone, Rick Hargreaves and Garry Cuttance Nett 53.5, 2nd George, Russell and Pip Krik and Andrew Smith Nett 57.75, 3rd Chris Ranish, Liam Annis, Marilyn Mackenzie and Christine Warner Nett 57.875, 4th Bill crook, Phil Ebelein, Malcolm Wood and Terry Fraei Nett 59.25, 5th Kris Chamberlain, Andrew Lawler, Jeff Bibby and Richard Whisker Nett 59.60, 6th Martin Napier, Debbie Donaldson, Bob and Mike Tosswill Nett 61, 7th Mariana Mc Dermott, Rosie Collins, Mike Rust and Tim Richards Nett 61.375 on a c/b to Dean Schaef, Sheldon Mc Namara, Colin Whibley Smith and Malcolm Bridge.
The wet autumn has also caused a few hiccups with our local Womens Interclub fixtures – Tilson Salver and Riverside Cup being postponed by the usual summer safe courses. New dates will be advised by WGI.
Martinborough is hosting the Wairarapa Womens Open 18 hole 4 BBB on Friday 28th April. Entries to Kris Chamberlain email@example.com we look forward to seeing you there.
