MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT
BY JENNY BOYNE
The Greens Convenor and the greens staff are very happy with the progress of the coring of the greens last week and with all the deluge the rest of the country was getting, here in Marty it was of the gentle nature and has worked a treat with the recovery process. With the greens out of action individuals ventured off elsewhere for their weekly fix while the inter club teams found themselves bonding with Carterton later in the week.
The first round of Riverside Cup was played at Featherston on Friday against Carterton. Sylvia Beavis and Jaclyn Kras completed their rounds all square while rookie Alison Tipler had a cracking win on her first foray with matchplay winning 5/4.
Saturday was the Mens turn to play Carterton at Carterton in the Linnell Cup. Wins in the four ball to Chris Ranish and Mark Lucock 4/2, Dean Scheaf and Malcolm Bridge 2Up and a very handy half to Sheldon Mc Namara and Malcolm Wood. In the singles Chris Ranish 4/2, Sheldon Mc Namara, Dean Scheaf and Malcolm Bridge 2/1. Malcolm Wood and Mark Lucock 1Up. Overall a very happy selector for his teams win of 8.5 to 6.5.
The Lansdowne Trophy team Cartinborough caused an upset at Manor Park against Paraparaumu. These Matches are played off the stick with a win in the morning in the foursomes from Sereana Phillipps and Katie Smart 7/6. The after round of singles saw healthy wins from Katie Smart 7/6, Sereana Phillipps 5/4, Vicki Bain 6/5 and Kris Chamberlain all square. The team are now sitting in the middle of the table.
