The Rain in Martinborough on Friday was steady and no one was complaining, the greens were treated to an exceptional soaking making the lob wedge the must have for the 3rd round of Mens Interclub Linnell Cup playing at home against Carterton on Saturday. Overall 10/5 win. Great results in the Singles from Sheldon Mc Namara 6/4, Gavin Lovejoy 5/4, Tom Hindmarsh 5/3, Alistair Boyne 3/2, Matt Thomas 2/1, Derek Stephens 2 Up and Colin Wibley Smith 1 Up. The four ball pairing complimented each other with Tom Hindmarsh and Matt Thomas winning 5/4 Sheldon Mc Namara and Colin Whibley-Smith 5/4, Derek Stephens and Alistair Boyne 6/4.

No one wanted to be at the seaside on Sunday, though six souls ventured to Castlepoint to be drenched in torrential rain for the first round of Tilson Salver. The golf – well the hardy Marie Scrimshaw and Carol Parkinson played on and unfortunately were beaten, while the remaining four opted at the turn to halve their matches against Featherston.

Parking space was at a premium on Wednesday with almost 70 women playing. The 18 hole stewards were frantic sorting their 43 players into their draw, while the sammie makers were buttering up a storm to nourish the bumper turn out .

Great day for playing with some sensational scoring, leading the packed Club house in 1st place was Sylvia Beavis on 47 points. Watching her handicap tumble 2nd Lyle Griffiths 45 points on a c/b to gal of the moment Alison Tipler 45 points. 4th Jaclyn Kras 43 points.

Twos to Natalie Donaldson and Ju Allen. All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on number 6 went to Ju Allen, while Honor Clark picked up the Medici Voucher for her efforts on number 8. Best Gross score of the day went to Kris Chamberlain 78 including bogeys on the 17th and 18th!

The Nine hole group played Best Nett and Shootout this week with Louise Lyster having a great round to lead the 2017 table with Nett 29. 2nd Denise Davies Nett 30 on a c/b to Jacquee Reid. 4th Billie Holmes Nett 32. All Teed Up Nearest the Pin went to Ann Renall.

There were not too many grumpy men playing on Tuesday as most of them played very well. Ist equal on 45 stableford points were JD Smith, Ali Holmes and Bill Jones, 4th equal Andrew McKenzie and Ro Griffiths on 41pts and 6th equal Andrew Simm and Tom Bunny on 40pts.

The Town and Country discussion group aka Thursday Club lads have returned to the fold, and they say you are only as good as your last round, well what a week for John Dean Smith completing his round on Thursday with a Gross 80,  with 11 pars, the only blemish a double bogey on Bull Hill to rack up a spectacular half century, yes 50 stableford pts. 2nd Mr Ed Elworthy pleased with his 45 pts. A jostle for 3rd place with Peter Husdon 44 pts on a c/b to Trevor Petersen on a c/b to Frank Colton. 6th Roger Parkinson 43 pts on a c/b to Bill Jones. Nearest the Pin was won by Craig Colton, with twos from Nick Allen (16), Ed Elworthy and Tom Bunny both got theirs on number 6.

Sundays Comp for the 1st round of the Mens Shoot Out, Medal and Putting had a solid start with 20 playing. Postie Derek is secure for now with a Nett 65, Gavin Lovejoy put in a another tidy round with Nett 68. 3rd Andrew lawyer Nett 69 on a c/b to Malcolm Wood. 5th Shaun Draper Nett 70 on a c/b to Martin Napier. Putting 1st Martin Napier and Bill Crook 27 putts. 3rd Derek Stephens and Gavin Lovejoy 28 Putts.
