MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

BY JENNY BOYNE

On Monday the  Womens Bronze Pennant team played Karori at Royal Wellington where Felicity Warren crucified her opponent with the biggest win you can have playing singles Matchplay , the score 10/8.  It really doesn’t get any better than that, though knowing her she was probably disappointed that she didn’t get to play the whole course. Other wins Angela Busby 5/4 and Sylvia Beavis 2/1.

The Silvers struggled at Masterton against the hosts, fortunately Venetia Morison had a fantastic win 5/4 to save the team exposing themselves.

The Mens inter club team suffered their first loss against Otaki at Otaki on the Saturday going down 5.5 / 9.5. Wins in the singles to Chris Ranish 2 Up, Malcolm Bridge 2/1, Sheldon Mc Namara and Colin Whibley Smith both 1 up.  In the four ball Chris Ranish and Sheldon Mc Namara 2/1 and Gavin Lovejoy and Malcolm Bridge all square.

The Tuesday grumpies were on fire with Rob McCreary cruising into the Club house with 48 stable ford points, 2nd Alan Eagle with 44 pts and 3rd Mike Hattrick and Ray Lind on 42.

The Nine hole group played their Sue Bunt National Competition last Wednesday. There is unprecedented pressure on this group to produce a hat trick for the Club, Leonie Wilde the National Champ in 2015, Jaquee Reid in 2016 so we are all hoping that Sandra Burgess’s Nett 29 be enough for Martinborough to be the Regional/ National Champ for 2017. Good luck. 2nd Jenny Tosswill Nett 31 3rd Sherryl Howie Nett 33 4th equal Pat Wood and Philip Reid Nett 34.

The Wednesday women played another National Competition -the Nancy Mac Cormack 36 hole foursomes. Nine pairs competing and after the first 18 holes it was still any pair in contention. Youth prevailed with Kerry Campbell and Karen Shaw taking out the title for 2017, Congratulations.

Sundays stableford round was won by Derek Stephens with 43 Stableford points. 2nd Patrick Pedlow on 40 pts and 3rd equal was Dean Schaef and Terry Fraei on 39 pts.
