Tuesday Tome 4th April 2023

Glorious day today with a good turnout of Wairarapa Vets enjoying the course.

Please remember that the course will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday next week to allow for the greens to be cored.

Sunday 16th February is the Dick Bennett Memorial 4BBB Stableford – get your entries in to the office – registration is from 10.00am with tee off at 11.00am.

Last week the 9 holers played interclub at Paraparaumu in atrocious conditions – trundlers spending more time on their side than upright!!  Tingay Davidson was the only one who managed to come away with a point.

Last Saturday saw Div 3 playing at home against Kapiti coming away with 12.5 points.  In the 4 ball matches Jason Shaw & Kingi Kaiwai, John Warner & Sam Edridge, Sheldon McNamara & Chris Ranish and Richard Kirton & George Fenwick all won the matches and Randal Warner & Dayle Harwood halved theirs.  In the singles wins went to Jason, John, Sam, Sheldon, Chris, Randal, Richard and George.

Div 10 were also playing at home against Trentham coming away with 13 points.  All 4 ball matches were won and in the singles Doug Clark, Shayne Cater, Tim Fenwick, Tora Boyne, Paul McKenzie, Pete Griffiths, Shayne Hammond and Brent McKinlay all won their games.

On Sunday the ladies played Tilson Salver at Masterton against Masterton.  Both 4 ball matches were won and in the singles Carol Parkinson and Honor Clark won their games and Emily Loughnan and Karen Shaw halved theirs.

Last Tuesday 13 hardy players started their round and all abandoned ship after 9 holes.

On Wednesday 10 pairs went out to play Nancy McCormick 36 hole 4Somes.  The winners on the day were mother and daughter team Sandra Petersen & Kelly Taylor with nett 148, 2nd Angela Busby & Jenny Wilkie 152 and 3rd Julie Weber & Honor Clark 154.

Numbers were significantly down for Thursday Club last week with Shane Colton leading the way with 38 points, 2nd Dayle Harwood 35 and Lachie McLeod 34 points.  Nearest the pin went to Brent McKinlay and twos went to Brent and Shayne Hammond.

On Friday we hosted the St Johns Ambrose with 28 teams playing and we managed to raised $9,500.  The winning team was Josh Hawkins, Richard Mills, Mike Charteris & Terry Fleet with nett 54.87, 2nd Tavita Isaac, Tim Fenwick, Richard Tosswill & Mar Childs 56.25, 3rd Richard Kirton, Seanoa Isaac, Duncan Didsbury & Sam Edridge 57.12, 4th Pete Griffiths, Whitney Griffiths, Paul McKenzie & Neil McKirdy 57.37, 5th Doug Clark, Stu Taplin, Cal Petersen & Bevan Sweeney 57.75, 6th Pete Smith, Robbie Robinson, Aaron Donges & Tom de Groen 57.87, 7th Tee Aranui, Michael Bing, Alex Priest & Shane Colton 58.12, 8th Taylor Houston, Jacqui Spooner, Hamish Eglington & Dean O’Leary 58.25, 9th Shayne Hammond, Rob Smith, Jason Shaw & Ailsa Malneek 58.50 and 10th Brent McKinlay, Kelly Taylor, Ali Holmes & Billie Holmes 59.37.  Thank you to everyone who played and special thanks to Carl for doing the Auction and to everyone who helped make the day so successful.

The weekend competitions were Stableford with Angela Busby winning on Saturday with 41 points.   There were no twos.  Sundays winner was Julie Dondertman 40 points, Dayle Harwood 36, Doug Clark, Colin Whibley-Smith and Guy Walmsley 35 points.  Colin was the only one to get a two and he got two of them – so the Bird’s Nest has been won for a 2nd week in a row.

That’s all the news for the week – don’t forget to book tee times if you intend playing over the weekend.
