SWDC RATES – If you haven’t already seen it, here is a link for the ratepayers & residents PETITION now circulating online — a petition that demands a 3% cap on next year’s SWDC rates increase. See LINK below.

The petitioner is Leah Hawkins of Martinborough.  Leah will be presenting the signed petition to the full SWDC meeting on 20 November.

Please see the petition .. Link https://www.petitions.nz/cap_rates_for_south_wairarapa_cap_202526_rate_increase_at_3

If you agree with a constructive, respectful request to cap the next rates increase and include a proper review of current operating expenditure in SWDC’s long-tern planning process (now starting), you might want to on-send this link to family, friends and associates living in the South Wairarapa.

The petition calls for respite from further excessive rates increases in FY 2026 – there are indications we are headed for another double-digit increase under business-as-usual – and a thorough review of council operations and spending as part of the Council’s current planning process.

Everyone appreciates that South Wairarapa has huge funding demands ahead to upgrade and expand our water supply and wastewater infrastructure for the long term.  As this era approaches, the PETITION can be seen as a call for SWDC to ensure its house is fully in order – that our council has the right structure & roles, tight expenditure controls & contracting disciplines, and strong focus on avoiding waste & delivering value for ratepayers’ money.
