Last weekend was the men’s 36 and 54 hole open tournament, and we had a great field entered for it, Saturday was pretty stormy with steady rain for most of the afternoon, but Sunday was a cracker day!  54 holes – Best Gross: 1st Owen Lloyd (213) 2nd Troy Shaw (229), 3rd Cameron Elers (230); Best Nett: 1st Zane Wilkins (217), 2nd Shayne Cater (217), 3rd Mike Edington (223).  36 hole – Best Gross: 1st Thomas Spearman-Burn ( 151), 2nd Peter Spearman-Burn (152), 3rd Josh Kahui (164); Best nett: 1st Dean Schaef (141), 2nd Mike Charteris (143), 3rd Robert Kahui (146). Best Gross Overall – Round 1: Ashley Dewinton-Davies (74 c/b), rounds 2 & 3: Owen Lloyd (73 & 66); Best Nett overall – Round 1: Grizz Kahui (71 c/b), round 2 Terry Blacktop (70), round 3: Dean Schaef (66).  Too many nearest the pins and twos to mention! Thanks to sponsors Trust House and all the volunteers and players that made this event such a success!

11 Grumpies arrived at the golf club last week but once the rain came just before scheduled tee off, no one actually went out and played, a few skipped on to the 19th instead!  They’re playing out at Ngawi this week.

Ladies played a nett and putting round. Honor Clark was first with 75 and also won the putting with 32.  Ju Allen, Marilyn MacKenzie, Nicola Warren and Lyle Griffiths were all close behind with 78.  Twos were scored by Robyn Blackett and Lyle.  Lyle also got Nearest the Pin as did Carol Parkinson.

Thursday club was tied three ways 1st = Doug Clark, Ed Elworthy and Sandy Bidwill (41), 4th Trevor Petersen and Doug Ferguson (38). Twos: Malcolm Wood and Randal Warner – who also got nearest the pin.

Coring was carried out at the beginning of the week – huge thanks to the (same old) volunteers who helped out the greens staff with this essential duty.

Club champs’ games continue and coming up at the end of the month (labour weekend) the 36-hole mixed foursomes – see Kris or Carol in the office to register. Enjoy the late-night rugby and good golfing everyone!

As we enter the 10th month of the year, and wonder where the year has gone; fighting our eyes from late night rugby world cup fixtures and having an hour snatched away from us on Sunday morning – panic slowly and enjoy the longer evenings and warmer temperatures.

Grumpies results 1st = Griff Page and Randall Warner on 40, 3rd Gary Cuttance on 39 and 4th Phil Reid on 38. Twos to Guy Walmsley and Rick Thompson.

Ladies had their club champs final last week and there were some epic battles held out on the course. In the Silver division last year’s winner Debbie Donaldson beat Ju Allen.  Kris Chamberlain won the Silver Plate.  Jane Terpstra and Honor Clark came head to head in the Bronze A division. Jane got off to a very strong start and was 8 up after 11 holes! But Honor fought back to win on the 36th hole! Former Featherstone player Julie Dondertman won the Bronze A Plate. The Bronze B pairing of Nicola Warren and Angela Busby had a very close match, and play continued up to the 37th where Angela sank her putt ahead of Nicola. Alison Tipler won the Bronze B Plate.  Well done to all involved – and thanks to the caddies and the referees on the (quite chilly) day!

Thursday club had the weather and numbers on it’s side, 1st Tony Taylor 39, 2nd = Bill Jones and Ed Elworthy 38, 4th = Sky Elworthy, Scotty the butcher, Richard Mills, Dean Schaef, Rick Hargreaves and Dayle Harwood 36.  Twos – Scotty (2), Dean Schaef, Rick Hargreaves & Sheldon McNamara – special congratulations to Randal Warner who got a hole in one on 16 – cheers for the beer!

The AB Martin was held on Sunday – alternate hitting men and woman 1st John and Julie Warner – nett 72 on countback from Dayle and Marie Scrimshaw, 3rd Guy Walmsley & Karen Shaw nett 74, 4th Rob Lopez & Kris Chamberlain nett 77.

Good luck to all the guys involved in the 36/54 hole men’s open sponsored by Trust House this weekend – enjoy your week and good golfing everyone!

After a very stormy start to last weeks golfing week, we ended up having some very settled weather.  Huge thanks to the army of volunteers who rallied with their chainsaws and tools to help clear the course of trees and debris last Tuesday following the hurricane force winds overnight – many of us were sad to see the big mac go on the corner of 17……. maybe not!

The ever-popular Lamb & Chardonnay tournament was held with a full field on Sunday in supreme conditions; the formidable team of the butcher, the builder, the plumber and the farmer (Scotty, Shane Hartnell, Nige Malneek & Craig Colton) rose to the occasion again and took out 1st prize!!  2nd Team Kayne Martin, 3rd Pete Griffiths, Honor Clark, Richard Mills & Ailsa Malneek, 4th Team Steve Fenell, 5th Team Alex Waters, 6th Team Nick Morison, 7th Team Stone & Feathers, 8th Team Doug Clark, 9th Team Kris Chamberlain, 10th Team George Kirk.  Nearest the pins – Fraser Smith, Tony Russo, Owen Lloyd, Kayne Martin.  Thanks to the brilliant Eastwood Motor Group for sponsoring a great day!!

Unsurprisingly no Grumpies golf was played on Tuesday after the storm.

Most of the ladies were involved in club champs matches, but for those who weren’t a stableford round was played. 1st Nicola Warren 33, 2nd Diana Donald on a count-back from Marilyn MacKenzie on 32.  Diana got the only nearest the pin.  Results next week from the club champs’ finals.

Thursday Club had a good turn out on a stunning day. 1st Sandra Petersen 42, 2nd Bill Gordon 41, 3rd = Matt Thomas, Trevor Hawkins and Doug Clark 38.  Twos – three for Doug Clark!! Two for Chris Hanson, one each for Dayle Harwood, Ro Griffiths, Randal Warner and Martin Napier – who also got nearest the pin.

Coming up this Sunday – The AB Martin – aka ‘the divorce tournament’, alternate hitting for men and woman – let the significant other in your life put you in an uncompromising position…. around the golf course!!

Have a good week – enjoy the last week of September – don’t forget to put your clocks forward on Sunday and good golfing everyone!!

Well hopefully you all made the most of the end of winter and celebrated by getting a dry round of golf in…I fear the only golf we’ll get to play over the next ten days will be with wet weather gear and canoe optional…… IF the forecast is to be believed!!
