Tuesday Tome 21st March 2023

Lovely sunny day today with a bit of a breeze which doesn’t seem to have deterred the Grumpies.

Coming up this week we have the Featherborough Tournament on Thursday, rego 11.00am with a 12.00pm tee off – entry is $20.  On Friday the ladies are playing Riverside Cup at Eketahuna against Carterton and on Sunday the Marquis Shield team are also at Eketahuna playing Masterton. On Monday the Silver Pennants team are at Masterton against Otaki and we are hosting the Bronze Combo Pennants teams so the course will be out of action until mid afternoon.

Last weekend Div 10 were playing at Shandon where they had a good win.  In the 4 ball matches Colin Whibley-Smith & Shayne Cater, Peter & Jackson Gray, Pete Griffiths & Malcolm Bridge and Shayne Hammond & Tora Boyne all had wins and Seanoa Isaac &  Seamus O’Sullivan had a half.  In the singles Colin, Seanoa, Jackson, Pete, Malcolm and Shayne all had wins and Seamus and Tora both halved their matches.

On Monday the Silver Pennants team were at Judgeford playing Masterton.  In the 4 ball Sandra Petersen & myself won and in the singles Sandra, myself, Ju Allen and Emily Loughan all had wins.

The Bronze Combo team were away at Kapiti playing Judgeford where they won all their 4 ball matches and in the singles Jo Loe, Honor Clark, Julie Weber, Nicola Warren and Felicity Warren all won their matches.

The 9 hole interclub team were at Masterton playing Shandon.  Debbie Coom, Tingay Davidson and Lizzy Thomson all had wins.

Results from last weeks competitions:  Grumpies played a Par round with Wayne Phelps leading the way on +4, Malcolm Bridge +3, Graham Wilson +2 and Bob Tosswill and Ro Griffiths -1.  Twos went to Malcolm, Ro, Bob and Seamus O’Sullivan.

On Wednesday the 18 holers also played a Par round with Kelly Taylor winning on countback on +1 from Honor Clark, Sandra Petersen and Bindy McLeod all square and Julie Weber and Marion McKenzie -1.  The only two of the day went to Kelly.  Nearest the pins were Jo Loe on #6 and Jenny Wilkie on #8.

The 9 holers had a putting competition with Philippa Reid the winner with 14 putts, Jenny Joblin with 15 along with Pat Wood and Jenny Tosswill.

Thursday Club had a good turnout with Ro Griffiths winning with 39 points on a countback from Sandra Petersen and Guy Walmsley, Kheinan Morrisey, Bob Schofield, Mariana McDermott and Shane Hislop all on 36 points.  Twos went to George Fenwick, myself, Shane Colton, Seamus O’Sullivan, Colin Whibley-Smith and Guy Walmsley.  Nearest the pin went to George Kirk.

The weekend competitions were Stableford with Honor Clark the winner on Saturday with 38 points.  I was the only one to get a two.  On Sunday Shane Hartnell won with 40 points, Chris Brooks and Doug Clark 39 and John Warner and Alastair Petersen 37 points.  Doug Clark got the only two of the day.

This weekend the competitions are Medal/Putting/Shoot Out.  Please note the course will be very busy on Saturday morning as we have a large group teeing off at 8.00am.

Tuesday Tome 14th March 2023

Glorious day out there today with a good number of Grumpies out playing.

Coming up on Thursday 23rd March is the Featherborough Golf Thursday Open – registration from 11.00am with tee off at 12.00pm.  Cost for this is $20.

Friday 31st March is the St Johns Ambrose – registration 10.00am with a shotgun start at 11.00am.  Entries to the office please.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Malcolm Wood the winner with 37 points closely followed by Wayne Phelps and Paul Riddiford with 36 points.  Twos went to Malcolm Wood and Bill Gordon.

On Wednesday the Ladies played LGU/Captains Trophy Qualifier/Shoot Out with Felicity Warren leading the way with nett 76, Kelly Taylor and Ju Allen 77 and Pamela Messervy and Ali Tipler 79.  There were no twos and nearest the pins went to Lyle Griffiths on both #6 and #8.

The 9 Holers played Sue Bunt/Shoot Out/LGU with Tania Williamson the winner with nett 38, Debbie Coom, Sandra Burgess and Lizzy Thomson all on nett 40.

Thursday Club winner was Kane Sim with 37 points, Doug Clark, Andrew Sim , Malcolm Bridge and Jason Shaw all on 35 points.  Twos went to Jason Shaw, Lloyd Warren, Seanoa Isaac and Doug Clark.  Nearest the pin was Jason.

The weekend competition was Par with Mark Mason taking the money on Saturday on +1 and he also had the only two of the day.  Sundays winner was John Warner +3, Malcolm Bridge +2, Chris Brooks and Glenn Harper +1 and Trevor Petersen and Phil Eberlein all square.  Twos went to Malcolm Bridge and Malcolm Wood.

Last week the 9 holers played interclub at Karori against Masterton where Mary Herrick and Lizzy Thomson both came away halving their matches.

At the weekend the Div 3 boys were away at Wainuiomata.  Dayle Harwood & Randal Warner had a good win in the 4 ball and in the Singles Jason Shaw, John Warner and Randal all had wins.

Div 10 were at home hosting Shandon.  In the 4 ball matches Colin Whibley-Smith & Shayne Cater and Steve Croft & Brent McKinlay had wins and Marc Jurlina & Seanoa Isaac halved their match.  In the singles Colin, Marc and Brent won their matches and Pete Griffiths halved his match.

This coming weekend Div 3 are away at Karori and Div 10 are away at Shandon.  The Silver Pennants team are away at Judgeford against Masterton and the Combo Team are away at Kapiti playing Judgeford.  The 9 hole interclub team are away at Masterton against Shandon.  Good luck to all teams.

The competitions for the coming week are:  18 holers Par MSB, 9 holers Putting/Bring a Friend, Saturday and Sunday will be Stableford.

It’s a glorious day today – perfect conditions for golf.

Important Notice:  THERE WILL BE NO ACCESS AT ALL TO THE COURSE ON MONDAY 13TH MARCH – THE COURSE WILL BE CLOSED TO ENABLE WORK TO BE DONE ON A NUMBER OF TREES.

 The Dick Bennett 4BBB which was scheduled for Sunday 12th March has been moved to Sunday 16th April – details to follow nearer the time.

Entry sheets are up on the noticeboard for Captains Trophy (first round 11th March), Martin 4BBB (first round 20th May) and Harry Kershaw 4Somes (first round 2nd July).  Please get your names up asap so that draws can be made.

Can I please remind you that if you wish to qualify for the Shoot Out you must pay your $20 to the office before you play.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Paul Riddiford the winner with 37 points, Seamus O’Sullivan 36 and Ro Griffiths 33 points.  Twos went to Andrew McKenzie and Greg Dalton.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played National Teams (Nett round) with Kelly Taylor winning with nett 67, Sandra Petersen 76, Jenny Wilkie and Marie Scrimshaw 77.  Twos went to Carol Parkinson and Sherry Weatherstone.  Nearest the pins were Sherry on #6 and Julie Weber on #8.

The 9 holers played a Stableford round with Tania Williamson winning with 19 points, from Jane Fanselow-Price and Lizzy Thomson both with 18 points.  Jane also had a two.

Thursday Club winner was Neil McKirdy with 41 points, Seamus O’Sullivan 40, Andrew McKenzie and Bob Lindberg 38 points and Tony Taylor 37 points.  Nearest the pin was JD Smith.  Twos went to Seamus (2), Bob Lindberg, Nick Morison, JD Smith, Chris Ranish and Andrew McKenzie.

Competitions at the weekend were Medal/Putting/Shoot Out.  Saturdays winner was Chris Brooks with nett 69 and he also won the putting with 33 putts.  Sundays winner was Jason Burt nett 74, Tora Boyne, Tony Taylor and Peter Schenk also on 74.  John Warner won the putting on a countback with 29 putts and Karen Shaw had the only two of the day.

On the weekend the boys played interclub.  Division 3 were at Kapiti with Troy & Jason Shaw, Kingi Kaiwai & Josh Hawkins winning their 4 ball matches and Dayle Harwood and Tiawharangi Aranui halving their match.  In the singles Troy, Kingi, Josh, John Warner, Chris Ranish and Dayle all won their games and Sheldon McNamara halved his match.

On Monday the Silver Pennants team was at Royal Wellington playing Paraparaumu.  In the 4 ball Carol Parkinson & Sherry Weatherstone and Jenny Wilkie & Emily Loughnan won their matches.  In the singles Sherry, Jenny and Emily all had wins.

The Combo Pennants team was at Boulcotts Farm playing Miramar.  Julie Weber & Julie Dondertman and Nicola Warren &  Lyle Griffiths won their matches and Jo Loe & Marie Scrimshaw halved theirs.  In the singles Marie, Julie W, Julie D, Nicola and Lyle all won their games.

This week the competitions are:  18 holers LGU/Captains Trophy/Shoot Out, 9 holers Sue Bunt/LGU/Shoot Out and weekend competitions are Par rounds.

Saturday is looking very busy with Division 10 playing at home and also there are a couple of large groups booked in so please make sure to book a tee time if you wish to play.

Not sure what the weather is up to today – sun keeps trying to shine and then there is a sprinkling of rain!!

We have a member who is looking for a second hand set of ladies golf clubs – if you have a set you would like to part with please contact the office.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Tony Taylor winning with 38 points on a countback from Seamus O’Sullivan, JD Smith 37 and Malcolm Wood 35 points.   Twos went to Tiawharangi Aranui and Seamus.

On Wednesday the 9 holers played a Par round with Tania Williamson leading the way on +3, Debbie Coom +2 and Lizzy Thomson +1.

The 18 holers played LGU/Shoot Out/Captains Trophy Qualifier Rnd 1.  Katrina Burgess had a good round finishing with a nett 66, Julie Weber and Sherry Weatherstone 69 and Carol Parkinson and Bindy McLeod 71.  Twos went to Carol Parkinson, Karen Shaw, Jo Loe and Lyle Griffiths.  Nearest the pins went to Ju Allen on #6 and Lyle Griffiths on #8.

There wasn’t a huge turnout on Thursday but I don’t think Rob Coy would have been beaten as he led the way with 44 points, Bob Schofield had 40, Malcolm Bridge 35, Brian Russo, Matt Thomas, Chris Ranish and Wayne Phelps all had 34 points.  Wayne was the only one to get a two and nearest the pin went to Jason Shaw.

At the weekend the competitions were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.  On Saturday Paul McKenzie was the winner with a nett 73 from John Warner on 75.   They were also the only ones to get twos.

On Sunday Brian Russo was the winner with a nett 71, Richard Mills 72 and Shayne Cater 73.  Twos went to Shayne, Glenn Harper and Emily Loughnan.

Can I please remind everyone to read the screen before you print your card – it doesn’t put the office staff in a good mood if they are having to go through and take people out of the competition when they haven’t entered!!!  Also, weekend competitions – there are no gimmes.

This Friday we are hosting Riverside Cup so if you are booked to play please note that they will be teeing off the 1st and 9th tees respectively.  On Saturday the Interclub boys are playing at Kapiti and Trentham and on Monday the Silvers are at Royal Wellington and the Combo team is at Boulcott Farm.

Competitions this week are:  18 holers have National Teams and the 9 holers are playing a Stableford.  On the weekend the competitions are once again Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.

The course is looking amazing in the sunshine today with a number of players out early.

Coming up this weekend we have the first round of Marquis Shield at Mahunga against Carterton and also the first round of Tilson Salver at Masterton against Riversdale.  Good luck to both teams.

Last weekend Div 3 hosted Trentham.  In the 4balls Troy & Jason Shaw, Kingi Kaiwai & Josh Hawkins, John Warner & Tim Richards all won their matches and Sheldon McNamara & Chris Ranish halved their match.  In the singles Troy, Jason, Kingi, Josh, John, Tim, Chris and Dayle Harwood all had wins and Sheldon halved his match.

Div 11 hosted Te Marua with Colin Whibley-Smith & Shayne Cater, Marc Jurlina & Seanoa Isaac and Seamus O’Sullivan & Brent McKinlay all winning their 4balls.  In the singles Seanoa, Pete Griffiths, Seamus & Brent all won their matches and Colin and Peter Gray halved theirs.

On Monday the Silver Pennants team played at Otaki against Miramar.  Mary Isaac and Sherry Weatherstone both had wins in their singles matches and Emily Loughnan halved her match.

The Combo Pennants team played at Manor Park against Waikanae with Jo Loe and Nicola Warren halving their games.

This week the Ladies are playing LGU/Shoot Out/Captains Trophy Qual round, 9 holers will be playing a Par round.  On the weekend the competition is Medal/Putting/Shoot Out.  Please note that if you wish to play in the Shoot Out you must pay your entry fee to the office BEFORE you play.

Due to the inclement weather last week there are no results for Grumpies, Ladies or Thursday Club.  The weekend competitions were Par rounds with Chris Brooks winning on Saturday on +2 and on Sunday the winner was Jason Shaw also on +2, Bob Schofield, Doug Clark, John Warner and Barry Johnson all  finished square.  The only two went to Tony Taylor.

Tuesday Tome 14th February 2023

The course is once again looking good for ducks but not golfers – same could be said for the office as well!!

At the weekend the Interclub boys played with Div 3 at home having a good win against Karori.  In the four ball matches wins went to Jason & Troy Shaw, Kingi Kaiwai & Josh Hawkins, Randal Warner & Dayle Harwood.  John Warner & Tim Richards halved their match.  In the singles wins went to Troy, Jason, Kingi, John, Tim, Randal and Dayle.  Div 10 were over at Waikanae with Colin Whibley-Smith and Rob Lopez winning their four ball and Colin also went on to win his singles match.

On Monday the Pennants teams were out with Silvers playing at Manor Park against Royal Wellington Green.  Wins went to Emily Loughnan & Jenny Wilkie in the four ball and Carol Parkinson and Jenny also had wins in their singles matches.

The Combo team were playing at Te Marua against Manor Park with Julie Weber & Honor Clark and Angela Busby & Julie Dondertman winning their four balls.  Julie W halved her singles match and Angle and Julie D won theirs.

Last week there was a good turnout of Grumpies with Rick Hargreaves leading the way with 38 points, Ro Griffiths and Ali Holmes 37, Rob Lopez, Andrew McKenzie, Greg Dalton, Bob Schofield and Wayne Phelps all on 36 points.  Pete Price was the only one who managed to get a two.

On Wednesday the Ladies had their Opening Day with a very good turnout of both 18 and 9 holers who played a 12 hole competition.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day judging from the laughter coming from the lounge.

Not quite as many as usual played Thursday Club last week with Michael & Ro Griffiths both coming in with 40 points, Paul Riddiford 39, Sandra Petersen, Lisa-Marie Ireland, Wayne Phelps and Neil McKirdy all with 38 points.  Nearest the pin was Sandra and Jason Shaw was the only person to get a two.

On Sunday it was Opening Day when a Mystery Partner 4BBB was played – this seemed to go down very well with everyone as nobody had any idea who their partner was (not even the organisers!!).  Gross results:  1st Shane Colton & Robbie Robinson (75), 2nd Brian Russo & Netia Morison (76), 3rd John Warner & Tora Boyne (76) and 4th George Fenwick & Vern Anton (78).  Nett results:  1st Brett Abercrombie & Michael Griffiths (58), 2nd Mark Mason & Honor Clark (60), 3rd Rosie Collins & Whitney Griffiths (61) and 4th Lyle Griffiths & Malcolm Bridge (61).  Stableford results:  1st Andy Morison & Sarah Monaghan (49), 2nd Marilyn MacKenzie & Robbie Walters (47), 3rd Julie Dondertman & Shayne Hammond (46) and 4th Carol Parkinson & John Monaghan (45).    Nearest the pins went to Robbie Walters #6, Sarah Monaghan #8, Michael Bing #12 & Josh Moorby #16.  Twos went to Sandra Petersen, Paul McKenzie, Sarah Monaghan and Lyle Griffiths.

This week competitions start (weather permitting) with the Ladies playing LGU/Shoot out, 9 holers have a putting round and at the weekend the competition is Par.

Interclub boys are playing at home on Saturday so the 1st tee is closed until 10.30am.

Coming up next month we have Featherborough Golf Thursday Open on 23rd March and Friday 31st March is St John Wairarapa Charity Golf Tournament.

Tuesday Tome 7th February 2023

It’s another beautiful day in paradise with a number of players out enjoying the sunshine.

This Sunday is Club Opening Day – at the moment not too many of you have put your names down – not very helpful for the organisers or caterers.  Can you please let the office know if you intend playing – tee off is 10.30am

On Saturday the Interclub boys are playing – Div 3 are at home against Karori and Div 10 away at Waikanae – good luck to all that are playing.

We have been informed by Carterton Golf Club that they have increased their green fees and fees for local affiliated players are now $20 for 18 holes and $15 for 9 holes.

Results from last week:   Grumpies played a Par round (everyones favourite) with Bob Tosswill having a good round coming in +4, Wayne Phelps +3 and Andy Morison, Rob Lopez and Malcolm Wood all on +1.  Jason Shaw was the only one to get a two.

There was a good turnout for Thursday Club with Chris Ranish winning with 39 points on a countback from Wes Patrick, Nick Morison 38, Brent McKinlay, Lloyd Warren and Sheldon McNamara all on 37 points.  Nearest the pin went to Tora Boyne and Anna Possenniskie, Pete Griffiths and Rob Smith all had twos.

This weekend saw the interclub boys playing their first rounds with both teams having home games.  Div 3 were playing Te Marua with Tim Fenwick and Nick Morison winning their 4 ball match and Kingi Kaiwai, John Warner, Chris Ranish and Tim F winning their singles and Jason Shaw getting a half.  Div 10 started well with Rob Coy & Shayne Cater, Seanoa Isaac & Seamus O’Sullivan and Tiawharangi Aranui & Pete Griffiths all winning their 4 ball matches.  In the singles Shayne, Seanoa, Seamus, Pete, Steve Croft and Brent McKinlay all had wins.

On Monday the ladies had Pennants with the Silvers playing at Shandon against Royal Wellington Gold.  Sherry Weatherstone & Jenny Wilkie had a good win in their 4 ball match and Ju Allen & Carol Parkinson halved their match.  In the singles Sherry and Jenny both had wins.

The Combo team were playing at Judgeford against Paraparaumu where Julie Dondertman & Sarah Monaghan won their 4 ball match.  In the singles Marilyn MacKenzie halved her match and Julie and Sarah both won theirs.

Results from last week:   Grumpies played a Stableford round with Rick Hargreaves winning with 37 points, Pete Price 36, Whitney Griffiths 35 and Chris Handley and Rob Lopez 34 points.  Twos went to Mike Griffiths, Brian Russo, Jason Shaw and Wayne Phelps.

Thursday saw a good turnout with Bob Tosswill taking the money with 39 points, Dayle Harwood 38, Ailsa Malneek, Charles Purcell and Wayne Phelps 37 points.  Twos went to Lloyd Warren and Lisa Marie Ireland and Seamus O’Sullivan was nearest the pin.

Tuesday Tome 13th December 2022

Last Tuesday Grumpies had a good turnout with Ed Brown taking the money with 40 points, Andrew McKenzie, John Tanner and Kane Sim 38, Mariana McDermott, Martin Napier and Raymond Matthews 37 points.  Twos went to Ro Griffiths, Kane Sim, John Tanner, Ed Brown and Jason Shaw.  Next Tuesday (20th) will be the last Grumpies until 17th January.

Thursday Club also had a good turnout with Lloyd Warren winning with 41 points, George Kirk and Rob Lopez 39, Jason Shaw 37 and Greg Dalton 36 points.  Nearest the pin went to Griff Page and twos went to Vern Anton, Lloyd Warren, Andy Morison, Griff Page, Jason Shaw, Pete Price and Mark Mason.

On Sunday we had our Members Only Xmas Cheer and Closing Day.  The competition was Lone Ranger and the winning team with 91 points was Ro Griffiths, Angela Busby, Colin Whibley-Smith and Ed Brown, 2nd Kris Chamberlain, Karen Shaw, Chris Brown and Trevor Petersen (89), 3rd Rob Coy, Andy Morison, Brent McKinlay and Randal Warner (88), 4th Guy Walmsley, Rick Hargreaves and Jane Fanselow-Price (86), 5th Anna Possenniskie, Neil McKirdy, Bob Schofield and Kelly Taylor (85) and 6th Nigel Malneek, Chris Ranish, JD Smith and Derek Stephens (83).  Nearest the pins were Peter Schenk #6, Neil McKirdy #8, Glen Schofer #12 and Mary Isaac #16.  Longest drives went to George Fenwick 0-18, Vern Anton 19+, Mary Isaac 0-18 and Nicola Warren 19+.  Best Stableford for the ladies went to Jane Fanselow-Price with 49 points and 2nd was Marilyn MacKenzie with 46.  Best Stableford for the men was Pete Halstead with 39 points and 2nd David Stevenson also on 39.

This Thursday is Smiddy’s Tournament – if you are playing please make sure to have your card in before 12pm and the cost is $10.
