Tuesday Tome 15th February 2022

It is good to see the sunshine again after all the rain at the weekend but the course has certainly benefitted from it.  Opening Day was cancelled on Sunday as was Interclub on Saturday and Pennants on Monday.

Coming up this weekend we have the Dick Bennett 4BBB Stableford – this is open to everyone and the cost is $20/pair – tee off is at 10.30am – please send entries to the office by 5pm on Friday.

On the Club Noticeboard is the flyer for the St Johns Ambrose on Friday 1st April – please note this is limited to the first 25 teams entered and paid.

Also on the Club Noticeboard is the flyer for the Featherborough Golf Thursday Open on 17th March.  Entries to be emailed to entries@martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz

This weekend Div 3 are away at Te Marua and Div 11 are at Mahunga.  On Monday the Silver Pennants team are at Otaki and the Bronze Pennants team are hosting.

Results from last week:

Grumpies played a Par round with Doug Ferguson winning on +5 on a countback from Brent McKinlay, Rick Hargreaves +3 and Andrew Sim and Brett Abercrombie on +1.  There was only one 2 and that went to Shayne Cater.

On Wednesday the 9 and 18 hole ladies joined together to open their season with a fun Ambrose competition.  They played in teams of 4 over 13 holes.  The winners were “Dusk till Dawn’ Katrina, Jill, Marion and Diana with a round of 67.

Thursday Club had a good turnout with Brian Russo taking the money with 43 points from Rob Lopez 40, Pete Griffiths 39, Neil McKirdy and Paul Riddiford on 38.  Twos went to Malcolm Wood (2), Chris Ranish, Doug Clark, Brian Russo, Pete Griffiths, Jason Shaw, Rob Lopez, Glen Schofer and Pete Price.  Nearest the pin went to Neil McKirdy.

That’s all for this week – let’s hope this weekend is drier than the last!!

Tuesday Tome 8th February 2022

It is hard to believe that we are already into February.  Before I give results from last week can I please remind you all that you are required to scan in when you arrive at the course and masks are to be worn in the clubhouse unless you are sat down eating and/or drinking.

Some of the more observant of you may have noticed the Emergency Dunny (behind the 14th green).  Usage instructions are inside the door – please be sure to follow them.  This has been kindly funded and will be maintained by the 9 Hole Club Members.

To the ladies out there I have a couple of ladies who are looking for some clubs – do you have a set you are no longer using (preferably from this Century!).  If you do please give me a call.

At the end of January we hosted the Spark Pro Am which went very well despite having to make some last minute changes to the running of the day.  Congratulations to all the winners – enjoy your prizes.  A list of prizes and prize winners is on the noticeboard for anyone that is interested.

Also on the noticeboard is information about a Level 1 Golf Rules Course in April – I think there are one or two of you out there that could benefit from this!

Interclub started on 29th January with both Div 3 and Div 11 boys playing at home – Div 3 had an 8/7 win over Judgeford and Div 11 won 13/2 against Mornington.  The Silver Pennants team played on the Monday at Te Marua against Manor Park and had a 7.5/1.5 win.  All in all an excellent start to the season.

This Saturday both Mens teams are playing at home and the Silvers are hosting interclub on Monday.

This Sunday is Club Opening Day – you must register with the office by 5pm Friday – if you just turn up on Sunday you will be disappointed!

Results from last week:  Grumpies had a good turnout for their first round of the year with 30 turning up to play.  Phil Reid was the winner with 40 points on a countback to Mariana McDermott, Whitney Griffiths and Greg Dalton.  Twos went to Greg and Andrew McKenzie.

Thursday Club had 56 out playing.  Matt Thomas took the money with 41 points from Doug Ferguson 39, Alistair Petrie, Sheldon McNamara and Stu Taplin on 38.  Twos went to Matt, Sheldon, Alistair, Peter Schenk, Bob Lindberg, Bill Jago, Malcolm Wood, Malcolm Bridge and Jason Shaw.  Nearest the pin was Andy Morison.

That’s all for this week – have a good one.

Tuesday Tome 25th January 2022

Firstly, please note the course is closed tomorrow in preparation for the Pro Am on Thursday – if you can spare an hour or two in the morning to help clear up around the course (as per my email this morning) that would be great.

Secondly, the Committee has redefined a couple of areas on the course, namely on the left hand side of the 11th fairway where there are new Totara plantings, this is now OOB and the GUR on the left hand side of the 17th is now a penalty area (red pegs).  This will come into effect from Thursday.

This Saturday the Mens Interclub teams are both playing at home – good luck to them.

Grumpies will be starting back next Tuesday (1st February).

Results from last week are:  1st Dayle Scrimshaw 41 points on a countback from Richard Mills, George Kirk and Anna Possenniskie 40, Kane Sim and Chris Handley 39 and Martin Napier, Steve Lewis, Malcolm Wood and Bill Gordon 38 points.  Twos went to Shayne Hammond, Wayne Eagleson, Ed Elworthy, Doug Clark, Peter Griffiths, Richard Mills, George Kirk and Anna Possenniskie.  Nearest the pin went to Arthur Warren.

Short but sweet this week – lots to do before Thursday.  Good luck to all who are playing and fingers crossed for some good weather.

Tuesday Tome 18th January 2022

Another beautiful day out on the course.  Coming up this weekend we are hosting Titahi Bay on Saturday morning with approximately 70 players teeing off multiple tees and from lunchtime there is a wedding party of 30 players teeing off multiple tees so if you were thinking of playing please make it later in the day.

Next Thursday (27th) we are hosting the Spark Pro Am so the course is closed.  The course is also closed on Wednesday (26th) to allow the greens staff to prepare the course.   The only players allowed out on Wednesday will be Pros wishing to practice.

Some of you may have noticed that we now have new bins out on the course – it would be appreciated if you could ensure that you put your rubbish in the correct bin – they are clearly marked and for those tees that do not have bins on them please take your rubbish with you and not leave it lying around.

Results from Thursday Club :  there was a very good turnout last week with Griff Page taking the money with 44 points from David Stevenson and Vern Anton 40, Shayne Hammond, Emily Loughnan, Mariana McDermott, Richard Mills and Neil McKirdy 39 points.  Nearest the pin went to Al Petrie and twos went to Seamus O’Sullivan (2), Sandy Bidwill, Andy Morison, Chris Cole, Kris Chamberlain, Kane Sim, Peter Griffiths, Al Petrie, Sandra Petersen, Doug Clark, Shayne Hammond, Emily Loughnan and Dayle Scrimshaw.

That’s all for this week – have a good one.
