The fog is finally clearing and the sun is trying to shine.  For those of you who use carts unfortunately you are all out of luck – carts are a no go this week.

Results from last week:  Grumpies had the best turnout in weeks with Greg Dalton and Ed Brown leading the way with 39 points from Paul Riddiford 38 and Andy Morison 36 points.  Twos went to Malcolm Wood, Andrew McKenzie and Greg Dalton.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played Par MSB and the winner was Felicity Warren on +3, Angela Busby +2 and Sandra Petersen and Julie Dondertman +1.  Twos went to Ju Allen and Angela Busby.  Nearest the pins were Sandra Petersen on #6 and Angela Busby on #8.

The 9 holers also played a Par round with Jill Murphy the winner on a countback on +2, Billie Holmes +2 and Tania Williamson -1.  Nearest the pins went to Billie on #8 and Tania on #16.

Thursday Club had a large turnout and the winner was Charlie Cresswell with 44 points, Malcolm Wood 39 (who also shot his age – very impressive), Shayne Hammond 38, Vern Anton, Doug Clark, Jason Shaw and Shane Hislop all on 37 points.  Nearest the pin went to Seanoa Isaac and twos went to Sandy Bidwill and Malcolm Wood.

Competitions on the weekend were Stableford and Saturdays winner was Chris Brooks with 41 points and he also got a two along with John Warner.  No one played in the competition on Sunday.

Coming up this week the 18 holers are playing HPMC, 9 holers have a putting round and the weekend competitions are Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.

Tuesday Tome 4th July 2023

It is a glorious day today – sun is shining and there is a gentle breeze so there should be some good scores from the Grumpies.

Results from last week:  there was a good turnout of Grumpies  last week and for a change they played off the yellow tees.  The winner was Brett Abercrombie with 37 points on a countback from Chris Handley, Andrew McKenzie and Ed Brown both had 36 points.  Twos went to Bob Lindberg, Paul Shepherd and Andrew McKenzie.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played LGU, Shoot Out and Putting.  The winner with the best nett was Sandra Petersen 76 on a countback from Marion McKenzie and 3rd was Jenny Wilkie 77.  Twos went to Sandra, Marion and Jane Terpstra.  Nearest the pins were Felicity Warren on #6 and Jane on #8.  Felicity also won the putting with 28 putts.

The 9 holers had a putting round with Jenny Tosswill the winner with 15 putts, 2nd equal were Sherryl Howie and Tania Williamson with 17 and nearest the pin on #8 was Debbie Coom.  Over the last few weeks they have also been playing Howie Handicap Club Championship and the winner this year is Debbie Coom and runner up was Jane Fanselow-Price.  The winner of the plate was Ali Russel and runner up was Philippa Reid.

There was a good turnout for Thursday Club and the winner was Ed Brown with 39 points, Arthur Warren and Sandra Petersen 38, Bob Lindberg 37, Vern Anton, Stu Taplin and Kheinan Morrissey 36 points.  Twos went to Andrew McKenzie (2), Malcom Bridge, Vern Anton, Andy Morison, Sandra Petersen, Peter Schenk and Stu Taplin.  Nearest the pin was Club Captain Andy Morison.

The competitions at the weekend were Par and Saturdays winner was Colin Whibley-Smith +1, Paul McKenzie and David Weir finished square.  There were no twos.  On Sunday the winner was Alistair Boyne +4, Brett Abercrombie and Jason Shaw +3.  Twos went to Shayne Hammond, Tony Taylor and Ed Brown.

Competitions this week are Par MSB for the 18 holers, Par for the 9 holers and the weekend competitions are Stableford.

Tuesday Tome 27th June 2023

It was a quiet week out on the course last week but hopefully with the sun shining a few more will venture out this week.

Results:  Grumpies played a Par round with Jason Shaw having a good day coming in on +4, Graham Wilson -2 and Rick Hargreaves also on -2.  Twos went to Brian Russo and Rick Hargreaves.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played HPMC (Stableford) with Julie Weber leading the way with 33 points, Alison Tipler 30 and Bernadette Pither 28 points.  Nearest the pin on #6 was Honor Clark who also got the only 2 of the day and it would appear no one managed to find the green on #8 with their tee shot!!

The 9 holers played Best Nett/Shoot Out/LGU, 1st Jenny Joblin 38, 2nd Ali Russell 43 and 3rd Jill Murphy 44.

Numbers were down for Thursday Club last week but there was still some good golf being played.  The winner on the day was Ed Elworthy with 38 points, 2nd Bill Gordon also on 38, James Elworthy and Jason Shaw 37 and Peter Schenk and Andy Morison 36 points.  Nearest the pin went to Sandy Bidwill and twos went to Malcolm Wood, Ed Elworthy and Jason Shaw.

The competitions at the weekend were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.   Saturdays winner was Chris Brooks nett 75 and on Sunday John Warner nett 73.  John won the putting both days with 29 and 25 putts respectively.

This week the 18 holers have LGU/Shoot Out/Putting and the 9 holers have a Putting round and the weekend competitions are Par.

The Tome this week will be very brief.

For those of you who use carts you are out of luck this week as the ground is too soft – fingers crossed for some dry weather so that you can get out in the near future.

Results from last week:  Thursday Club had a good turnout and looking at the scores conditions were obviously not a problem for some.  The winner on the day was Kheinan Morrissey with 41 points, Stu Taplin 40, Charlie Cresswell 39, Shane Hislop 38, Chris Handley, Al Petrie and Arthur Warren all had 37 points.  Stu Taplin was the only one who managed to get a two and he was also closest to the pin.

The competitions at the weekend were Par and John Warner was the winner on Saturday on -2 and Bevan Sweeney on Sunday on +4.  There were no twos.

Competitions this week are:  HPMC for the 18 holers, Best Nett/Shoot Out/LGU for the 9 holers, and the weekend competitions are Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.

It was good to see 28 teams out yesterday playing in the Martinborough Kindy Fundraiser Ambrose – it wasn’t the warmest of days but everyone seemed to enjoy their day and the platters after golf were greatly appreciated.  Thanks to everyone’s generosity they managed to raise $9,000.  The results were as follows:

Last Tuesday the Grumpies played a Stableford round with Club Captain, Andy Morison, taking the money with 36 points, Malcolm Wood, Chris Handley and Bill Gordon all with 35 points.  Malcolm was the only one to get a two.

On Wednesday the 18 holers played a Par round with Marilyn MacKenzie winning on -3 and Sandra Petersen -5.  Nearest the pins went to Sandra on #6 and Sarah Monaghan on #8.  Sandra was the only one to get a two.

The 9 holers played Sue Bunt Nett/Shoot Out/LGU with Debbie Coom leading the way with nett 39 and Jill Murphy nett 40.

Thursday Club had a good turnout with Trevor Petersen the winner with 41 points, Shayne Hammond & Mike Charteris 40 and Bob Schofield 38.   Twos went to Bob, Trevor, Mike, Malcolm Wood, Shane Hislop and Sandra Petersen.  Bob Lindberg got nearest the pin but didn’t manage to get his two.

The weekend competitions were Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.  The winner on Saturday was John Warner 72 and Chris Brooks 73 and John also won the putting with 26 putts.   Guy Walmsley had the only two of the day.  On Sunday the winner was Bevan Sweeney 69, Marilyn MacKenzie 70, Tony Taylor 72 and Jason Shaw 73.  Twos went to Dayle Harwood and Brian Russo and Bevan won the putting with 26 putts.

On Friday last week the Ladies played Rew & McCracken at Riversdale – this is a Wairarapa tournament where the nett scores are added together and the team with the best nett wins and this year Martinborough were the winners.  Congratulations to everyone who played.

This weekend is the final round of Tilson Salver at Mahunga and Martinborough are playing Castlepoint – go well girls!!

Tuesday Tome 30th May 2023

The course is slowly drying out but unfortunately not quickly enough for those of you who require carts to play.  Can I please remind all members that GUMBOOTS are NOT acceptable footwear on the golf course.

Further to the temporary rule that you received last week regarding abnormal conditions re lost/plugged balls the same rule applies if you lose your ball amongst leaves.

Coming up this week we are hosting the Martinborough Kindergarten Ambrose Tournament on Monday 5th June – there are a few slots left if you wish to enter a team.  Registration is from 9.00am with tee off at 10.00am – please email the office.

On Monday the Combo Pennants team played their final round of interclub at Otaki where they had a great win to finish 2nd which means that they now go onto play Royal Wellington at Shandon in the final.  They won all three of their 4 ball matches and Honor Clark, Julie Weber, Angela Busby and Felicity Warren all won their games.  Congratulation ladies.

Also on Monday the 9 holers had interclub at Manor Park where they were playing Miramar.  Debbie Coom, Jenny Tosswill and Lizzy Thomson all won their matches and Tingay Davidson halved her match.

Results from last week:   Not quite as many Grumpies out playing last week and the winner was Malcolm Wood with 38 points from Brett Abercrombie and Ed Brown on 33 and Brian Russo with 32 points.  Brian, Tony Taylor and Seamus O’Sullivan all had twos.

On Wednesday a handful of ladies played HPMC (Stableford) with Sandra Petersen winning with 34 points and Kelly Taylor 27 points.  There were no twos and nearest the pin on #8 was Kelly.

The 9 holers very sensibly decided coffee was a better option than golf!!

Thursday Club saw 25 out playing with Shane Ireland leading the way with 42 points, Shayne Hammond 38, Sandra Petersen 37 and Brian Russo 36 points.  Twos went to Peter Schenk, Bob Lindberg, Bill Gordon, Sandra Petersen and George Kirk.  Nearest the pin was Brian Russo.

On Saturday the competition was a Par round with Jason Shaw the winner finishing square.  There were no twos.

On Sunday it was Ngahau Trophy/Grandmas & Grandpas.  The Non Grandma winner was Emily Loughnan and 2nd was Ju Allen.  Non Grandpa winner was Doug Clark, 2nd Bevan Sweeney and 3rd Jason Shaw.   The winning Grandma was Sandra Petersen, 2nd Alison Tipler and 3rd Marilyn MacKenzie.  Winning Grandpa was Tony Taylor, 2nd Brian Russo, 3rd Seamus O’Sullivan and 4th Pete Price.  The winner of the Ngahau Trophy for women was Sandra Petersen and for the men it was Jason Shaw.  Twos wen to Andy Morison and Alison Tipler.  Congratulations to you all.

Competitions this week are:  18 holers Par MSB, 9 holers Sue Bunt Nett/Shoot Out/LGU and the weekend competitions are Medal/Putting and Shoot Out.

Tuesday Tome 23rd May 2023

Glorious day today with clear blue skies and sunshine – let’s hope it stays that way for a number of days.  The course is still extremely wet underfoot with the green keeping staff still unable to mow the rough and fairways.

A reminder that this Sunday we have the Ngahau Trophy/Grandmas & Grandpas tournament (with a non grandparents division as well) – registration is from 10.00am with the draw being done at 10.30am for an 11.00am tee off.  Entry fee is $20.

Also coming up over the next couple of weeks is the Kindy Ambrose Golf Tournament on Monday 5th June – please send your entries to the office.  This is open to golfers and non golfers with all proceeds going to Martinborough Kindergarten.

Not a lot of golf was played last week, however Thursday Club had 29 go out to play a Stableford round.  The conditions obviously suited Shayne Hammond who came in with 43 points, Kheinan Morrissey 40, Alistair Petrie 38 and Brian Russo 37 points.  James Elworthy was nearest the pin and there were no twos.

On Saturday Div 3 hosted Wainuiomata in the last round of interclub.  In the four ball matches Troy & Jason Shaw, Josh Hawkins & Matt Thomas and Charlie Jackson & Shayne Cater won their matches and in the singles wins went to Troy, Jason, Josh, Matt, George Fenwick and Charlie.

Div 10 were away at Royal Wellington with Seamus O’Sullivan & Tora Boyne and Paul McKenzie & Neil McKirdy winning their four ball matches.  In the singles Seamus and Paul both had wins.

On Sunday the ladies played Tilson Salver at Riversdale Beach against Mahunga.  Alison Tipler & Nicola Warren won their four ball match and in the singles Jo Loe, Alison and Nicola won their games.  This has now put them equal first with Masterton with one more round to play.

On Monday the Silver Pennants team were playing at Miramar against Manor Park.  All four ball matches were won and in the singles Mary Isaac, Carol Parkinson, Sherry Weatherstone and Jenny Wilkie all had wins and Sandra Petersen halved her match.

Very wet outside today but at least the office is warm and dry!!

Coming up over the next couple of weeks we have the Ngahau Trophy/Grandma & Grandpas tournament (there is also a division for non grandparents) on Sunday 28th – please let the office know if you intend playing and on Monday 5th June we are hosting the Martinborough Kindergarten Fundraiser (flyer attached).

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round and Malcolm Wood was the winner with 37 points, Brian Russo 36, Tony Taylor 34 and Chris Handley 33 points.  Brian Russo was the only one to get a two.

On Wednesday the ladies did go out to play but then the heavens opened and rain stopped play (apart from 4 who were playing a match!!!)

There weren’t too many playing Thursday Club last week but the conditions obviously didn’t affect Brian Russo as he was the winner with 38 points, Jason Shaw 37 and Brent McKinlay 33.  Twos went to Brian Russo and Tony Taylor and Brian also got nearest the pin.

The weekend competitions were Stableford – winners were Kris Chamberlain on Saturday and on Sunday the winner was George Kirk with 36 points and Jason Shaw, Bob Schofield and Ed Brown all on 34 points.  Twos went to Kris, Glenn Harper and Martin Napier.

On Friday we hosted the Featherston Wrestling Club Ambrose Fundraiser.  The winners were 1st Mike Topp, Johnson Williams, Dave Topp & Keith Cryer 55.87, 2nd Jeremy Sargent, Steve Harley, Adam Marshall & Mike Southey 57.12, 3rd Tavita Isaac, Mark Childs, Rihi Brown & Andre Taylor 57.5, 4th George Deans, Joseph Thompson, Antonia Thompson & Fliss Reidy 58.12 and 5th Matenga Love, Mark Omond, Mark Stratford & Diga Jensen 59.25.

On Saturday the Div 3 interclub team were away at Trentham and came away with 3.5 points.  Div 10 were hosting Waikanae and got 10.5 points.

Tuesday Tome 9th May 2023

There is a reasonable turnout of Grumpies today trying to get some golf in before we get more rain later this week.

For those of you who generally use carts if you are looking to play please call the office to check if carts are allowed.

Coming up on Friday we have Featherston Wrestling Club Fundraiser – this is an Ambrose so if you wish to play please get your team in as soon as possible.  At the weekend we have interclub – Div 10 are at home playing Waikanae and Div 3 are away at Trentham – good luck to both teams.

Results from last week:  Grumpies played a Stableford round with Rob Smith leading the way with 40 points, Sandy Bidwill and Andrew Sim 38, Rick Thompson and Ro Griffiths 37 points.  Twos went to Shayne Hammond (2), Rob Smith, Seamus O’Sullivan and Dayle Harwood.

On Wednesday the 18 holers also played a Stableford round.  Bindy McLeod won on a countback with 37 points from Kelly Taylor, Jo Loe, Alison Tipler and Lyle Griffiths 34 points.  Nearest the pins went to Marion McKenzie on #6 and Carol Parkinson on #8.  Lyle was the only one to get a two.

The 9 holers played Sue Bunt Nett/Shoot Out/LGU.  The winner on the day was Lizzy Thomson with nett 34, Debbie Coom 35 and Jane Fanselow-Price nett 36.

Last Thursday 20 hardy players went out and Shayne Hammond was the winner on a countback with 38 points from Brian Russo and Malcolm Wood.  Twos went to Colin Whibley-Smith, Jason Shaw and Brian Russo.  Jason also got nearest the pin.

On Friday we hosted the Eastwood Motor Group Beef & Burgundy Ambrose.  The winning team was Jason Shaw, Josh Hawkins, Brent McKinlay and Nick Morison with a nett 58.25, 2nd Shane Hartnell, Scott Reid, Craig Colton and Johnson Williams 58.62, 3rd Sam Edridge, Marc Jurlina, Jono Friend and Blake Walker 58.87, 4th Kane Lloyd, Malcolm Wellington, Jayden Wellington and Dean Alexander 59.12, 5th Ailsa Malneek, Shayne Hammond, Rob Smith and Daniel Hawkins 60.12 and 6th Sandra Petersen, Trevor Petersen, Kelly Taylor and Alastair Petersen 60.12.  Nearest the pin on #8 was Pip Smith and on #12 Josh Hawkins.

The competition at the weekend was Par with Mark Mason the winner on +1, Doug Clark all square and Dayle Harwood -2.  Dayle also won the Birds Nest.

The competitions this week are:  Wednesday LGU/Shoot Out/Putting for the 18 holers, 9 holers have Howie Cup Championships Rnd 1 and the weekend competitions are Stableford.
